Day Tours
We offer a wide range of tours to suit most tastes. We are extremely proud of the specialist tours, which we are developing in conjunction with various partners, covering a number of themes related to the area.
On a forestry theme,"Seed to Sawmill" is in the vanguard of these tours, following the life-cycle of a tree from its germination to its conversion into products which we see every day. The tour begins at a nursery, where the early life of the tree is covered. We then go on to a working forest site, where rangers will explain the further development of the trees life and where the ecology of the forest is demonstrated. After lunch, we observe the harvesting process, with a chance to get up close to some of the amazing machinery used in the modern forest. Following this, we go to a historic, water - powered saw-mill to see the conversion from tree to product.

The "Wings on Wheels" tour, developed in association with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) at Mersehead, will be running again in the spring, as part of the Dumfries & Galloway Wildlife Festival, which runs from 21st March to 13th April, 2008. 2nd April from Castle Douglas, 9th April from Dumfries. See the Wildlife Festival brochure for details. To book (£10 per trip) ring Mersehead on 01387 780579.
Robert Burns features in the first of our arts themed tours. This tour follows the life of Burns, from his birth in Ayrshire to his death in Dumfries. Other arts-themed tours in development are related to some of the various books and films set in Dumfries and Galloway, such as Two Thousand Acres of Sky, the 39 Steps, Wickerman and Five Little Herrings.
For those who fancy a flutter we also organise regular outings to race meetings across lowland Scotland and northern England.
